Sheetz Fellows are students with a spirit and drive that goes beyond the norm. They look to lead and inspire others through community involvement, self-improvement, and lifelong learning. Becoming a Sheetz Fellow is an opportunity granted to top students at Penn State Altoona.

Timeline

  • First semester at Penn State Altoona through second semester of second year: Students may join the program as an Aspirant.
  • Second semester of third year: Students complete application and interview process with Steve Sheetz and Donna Bon, Program Director. Accepted Aspirants are inducted into program as Sheetz Fellows.
  • Graduation: Private ceremony held for Sheetz Fellows and special recognition during campus-wide graduation ceremony.

How Do I Get Involved?

Students may self-select into the program any time prior to and including the second semester of their second year. In order to become an Aspirant, students must be enrolled full-time at Penn State Altoona, must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and must enroll in ENTR 496 on LionPath. The program is open to students of any major.

Application/Induction Process

To be inducted, Aspirants must complete a written application, an interview process, a 360 evaluation, and meet program milestones. Qualified Aspirants are inducted as Sheetz Fellows during the second semester of their third academic year.

Graduation Outcomes

In order to graduate with distinction as a Sheetz Fellow, the following program requirements must be met:

  • Complete a minor in entrepreneurship or an option in entrepreneurship
  • Maintain at least a 3.25 GPA in major
  • Complete an internship or research initiative
  • Complete a minimum of 80 hours of servant leadership
  • Complete an ethics course
  • Complete a 10-day study away experience
  • Meet with a minimum of seven Experts-In-Residence
  • Meet with mentor monthly during fourth year
  • Attend an entrepreneurship/leadership conference
  • Attend business etiquette dinner
  • Attend two speaker events
  • Attend student benefactor awards event

Code of Conduct

The Sheetz Fellows is a prestigious program at Penn State Altoona, providing generous financial support, unique out-of-classroom experiences, and important skills related to leadership and entrepreneurship for our students. The program is regularly used as a best-in-class example for other campuses and universities. The Sheetz Fellows themselves are ambassadors of both the program and Penn State Altoona on our campus and in our communities.
